THE LORD'S PRAYEROur Father, who art in heaven, |
JESUS PRAYER * also called the "Prayer of the Heart and Prayer of the Mind [Nous]"
"Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner." or "God, have mercy on me, a sinner" [Luke 18:10-24]
Psalm 139:1-10
"O Lord, you have searched me and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; You perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; You are familiar with my ways. Before a word is on my tongue you know it completely, O Lord. You hem me in - behind and before; You have laid your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me. Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast..."
MORNING OFFERING
Almighty God, I praise you and give you thanks and praise. Your goodness has preserved me thus far. I thank you for your past blessings. Today I offer myself - whatever I do, say, or think - to you loving care. I offer you my whole being and in particular all my thoughts, words, and deeds, together with the trials I may undergo this day. Give them your blessing, may they serve your greater glory. Continue to bless me, Lord. I pray in Jesus' name. Amen.
ACT OF LOVE
Oh my God, I love you above all things, with my whole heart and soul, because you are all good and worthy of all my love. I love my neighbour as myself for the love of you. I forgive all who have injured me and I asked pardon of all whom I have injured.
ACT OF CONTRITION
[Any spontaneous prayer that tells God you are sorry, that you will mend your ways and avoid what leads to sin is a good Act of Contrition].GRACE BEFORE MEALS
Bless us, O Lord, and these gifts, which we are about to receive from your bounty, through Christ, our Lord. Amen. [Spontaneous prayers may also be used.]
THANKSGIVING AFTER MEALS
We give thanks for all your benefits, almighty God, who lives and reigns forever. May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
PRAYER FOR THE FAITHFUL DEPARTED
Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord.
Response: And let perpetual light shine upon them.
May their souls and the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
Response: Amen.
SERVICE OF ANNOINTING: LAYING ON OF HANDS AND ANOINTING
Peace to you from our Lord Jesus Christ:
Amen.
We are here in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, who restoreth the sick to health and who himself suffered for our sake. He is present among us still to heal and to make whole. We entrust our brothers and sisters __________________________ [names] to the grace and power of Jesus Christ, that the Lord may ease his/her/their suffering and grant him/her/them health and salvation.
CONFESSION AND FORGIVENESS
Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hid: Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you and worthily magnify your holy name through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. But if we confess our sins, God, who is faithful and just will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Most merciful God,
We confess that we are in bondage to sin and cannot free ourselves. We have sinned against you in thought, word and deed, by what we have done and what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbours as ourselves. For the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways, to the glory of your holy name. Amen.
Almighty God, in his mercy has given his Son to die for us, and for his sake, forgives us all our sins. As a called and ordained minister of the Church of Christ, and by his authority, I therefore declare to you the entire forgiveness of all your sins, in the name of the Father and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
God has made us his people through our Baptism into Christ. Living together in trust and hope, we confess our faith.
APOSTLE'S CREED
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, and was buried.
He descended to hell. On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
The holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins,
The resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
CANTICLE
Refrain: How blest are those who know their need of God; the kingdom of heaven is theirs.
How blest are the sorrowful; they shall find consolation. How blest are those of a gentle spirit; they shall have the earth for their possession;
Refrain: How blest are those who know their need of God; the kingdom of heaven is theirs.
How blest are those who hunger and thirst to see right prevail; they shall be satisfied.
Refrain: How blest are those who know their need of God; the kingdom of heaven is theirs.
How blest are those who show mercy; mercy shall be shown to them. How blest are those whose hearts are pure; they shall see God. How blest are the peacemakers; God shall call them his children. How blest are those who have suffered persecution for the cause of the right; the kingdom of heaven is theirs:
Refrain: How blest are those who know their need of God; the kingdom of heaven is theirs.
The Lord be with you: and also with you.

LESSONS
A reading from St. Luke:
When the sun was setting, the people brought to Jesus all who had various kinds of sickness, and laying his hands on each on, he healed them. [Luke 4:40]
A reading from the Gospels:
Jesus called to him his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every disease and every infirmity. These twelve he sent out, charging them, "Preach as you go, saying, 'The kingdom of heaven is at hand,' Heal the sick." They went out and people should repent. They drove out many demons and anointed - any sick people with oil and healed them. [Matthew 10:1,5,7-8; Mark 6:12-23]
A reading from James:
Is anyone of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven. Therefore, confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed.

"They have taken my Lord away," she said, "and I don't know where they have put him." At this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not realize that it was Jesus. "Woman," he said, "why are you crying? Who is it you are looking for?" Thinking he was the gardener, she said, "Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have put him, and I will get him." Jesus said to her, "Mary." She turned toward him and cried out in Aramaic, "Rabboni!" (which means Teacher). |
